In 2004 many music admirers began discussing the possible construction of a concert hall in České Budějovice. At the time, there was no such opportunity to seize. However, today, there is a music hall that finally meets both the acoustic as well as the social conditions necessary for the ultimate musical experience.

Shortly following the 2004 discussion, in 2007, The Friends of Music Society of South Bohemia o.p.s, was founded. With its main purpose being the realization of such suitable premises, a conference was held with the council of České Budějovice, and a suitable premise was chosen. The former barracks in the Four Courts were chosen and for the purpose of architectural design, the world-renowned Czech architect, Jan Kaplický, was approached as the lead.

In November of 2007, Mr. Kaplicky accepted the offer. In August of 2008, less than a year later, he personally presented his thoughts within the České Budějovice City Hall. After revealing his marine animal inspired idea of Antonín Dvořak’s Concert Hall, the concept quickly gained the nickname, STINGRAY.

However, due to unfortunate circumstances in 2009, Jan Kaplicky sadly passed away. Therefore, another world-renown Czech Architect, Eva Jiřičná, was asked to take over The Project.
